Being located in Zone 1 means that it’s super easy to get around the city centre. Did you know, as a full-time student, you’re eligible to get discounted travel around the city? An oyster card is the key to unlocking London’s travel network, and if you apply online, you can get one with the student discount built-in. Armed with your oyster card you can catch the bus from the end of the street or take a 5-minute walk to Pimlico station which is on the Victoria Line. If you fancy something a little bit different, you can even use your oyster card on the Thames Clipper: A boat service connecting the city along the river. The closest docking point is at Millbank Pier, just a 15-minute walk away.
As well as easy access around London via the tube, bus and boat services, Dolphin Square also offers easy access to some of London’s major transport hubs for travel further afield. A 4-minute tube journey will take you to Victoria Bus Station with national and international bus services. A 17-minute tube journey will take you Kings Cross St Pancras to connect with domestic overground trains and the Eurostar rail service. And if you’re looking to travel from even further afield, then both London Heathrow Airport and London Gatwick Airport are less than an hour away by train. With links like these, you’re never too far from home!
Located just west of the city centre, you’ll easily be able to jump on a bus, hop on the tube, or even take the riverboat right into the city centre to be a part of the action. In fact, some of the city’s major attractions are only a short walk away. A 10-minute stroll alongside the river Thames will see you at the doors of the Tate Britain to get your weekend cultural fix. And if that’s not enough, another 20-minute walk east will take you through the picturesque Victoria gardens and right up to Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
With all of those top London locations on your doorstep, you’re sure to want to show off your new pad and city life to visiting friends and family. Did you know that at Dolphin Square we offer short term holiday lets as well as long term rentals? So, rather than squeezing your sister on an airbed and your parents on the sofa, they can hire a luxury apartment of their very own as a base to explore the sights with you as their tour guide.
It’s not just the historical sites of central London that you can wow your friends and family with when they come to visit. Dolphin Square itself has a fascinating history. Built in 1936 on the site of a former army clothing factory, the building features wonderful art deco architecture. During WWII it survived the blitz and was used as an ambulance station and hospital, all while its regular residential tenants lived alongside.
Your time in London won’t be all exploring and adventuring, you are here to get some studying done after all. With such a central location, you can quickly get across the city no matter the time of day to reach any of London’s 40 higher education institutions. Right on our doorstep is the Chelsea College of Arts for all you creative types and Imperial College London for the science and engineering folk. The Kings College St Thomas campus is just along the river and over Westminster Bridge and University College London takes only 15 minutes on the Victoria Line from Pimlico station. So, whatever you’ve chosen to study and no matter it’s London location, you’ll be able to reach it easily from your doorstep.
