We all feel a little overwhelmed at Christmas when it comes to decorating the house. You want to achieve that magazine picture perfect style, but your decorations look more santa's grotto than festive elegant chic. Help is at hand! We caught up with Nikki Tibbles, the creative flair behind London's popular florist, Wild At Heart to ask her for her top tips on transforming your home into a Christmas wonderland.
"When you’re decorating your home for Christmas, a good way to start is to work out the theme and feel you would like to achieve. You can then work out the best colour palette and style of decorations to fit this. For example, if you want to create a warm and traditional look, rich golds and reds will work perfectly. Alternatively, sparkling silver with white accessories will create the perfect winter wonderland.
Whatever I choose for my colour scheme, thousands of lights are always an absolute must for my Christmas tree. They create a wonderful ambience and are so welcoming on a dark winter evening. And, if you need to make an impact quickly and simply, focusing on just one large tree and covering it in hundreds of lights makes a striking but effortless statement.
When I need inspiration, I like to look outside. Be it the holly from my garden or pine cones from a walk in the countryside, natural surroundings are always my first port of call for creative ideas. Scent is also incredibly important to me when decorating my home for Christmas. Bundles of dried lavender, dried oranges, cinnamon sticks and stems of eucalyptus are all wonderful for creating a natural, festive scent.
My ultimate decoration would be to have garlands of lavender and eucalyptus all through the house and all up my staircase – the smell would be incredible."
