Dolphin Square History: A Home Away From Home since 1937

Dolphin Square | 1 MIN READ

Curated by Gordon Jeeves FRIBA, the architectural grandeur of Dolphin Square has been celebrated for its subtle, art deco charm and attention to detail. Completed in 1937, the imposing structure withstood the Blitz during World War II, protecting residents in what was notably “the largest contained block of flats in Europe”. The revered American travel writer, Temple Fielding, referred to the structure as a “mini city” and it is this community spirit that continues to thrive throughout Dolphin Square today.

In reflection of its historical roots, all 13 of the houses that constitute Dolphin Square are named after well-known figures from the United Kingdom’s distinguished maritime history. The landscape gardens, a key feature of the design, were originally curated by Richard Suddell, the President of the Institute of Landscape Architects, and provided a tranquil haven surrounded by the grandiose buildings.

Fast-forward to the present day, Dolphin Square, is an oasis of calm in the midst of the hustle and bustle of central London. Offering a home away from home for those seeking short term, long term or permanent accommodation in the capital, Dolphin Square continues to boast a village like charm that appeals to anyone seeking affordable accommodation in the charming yet vibrant Pimlico, one of the most sought after locations in London.

Ranging from spacious studio flats to sprawling six bedroom apartments, our residents can enjoy the flexibility of creating their home from scratch by opting for an un-furnished apartment, or alternatively, embrace the convenience of guaranteed creature comforts minus the hassle, by renting one of the fully furnished apartments. Members of the Dolphin Square community have direct access to all of the facilities including the Dolphin Fitness Club, the award winning Moroccan inspired Spa and also our in-house eatery, the Dolphin Bar & Grill.

The three acres of manicured lawns, blooming flower beds and ivy-bestrewn terraces accentuate the village like feel, encouraging residents to relax and indulge in some peace and quiet, somewhat unheard of in the heart of London.

Dolphin Square is not just about being a collection of apartments, but it continues to be a community in itself, combining home comforts with beautiful gardens, and excellent facilities, all in the heart of the capital.
